Portland is an attractive place to live, work and study.

Don't take our word, Google it or read the WikiPedia pages about Portland.

In addition to all the pretty pictures on the right side of most pages, we have two sections on this website that you'll see in the menu at left:
    • Live and Study Here - this section.
    • More Visitor Ideas - on playing tourist while you're here.

Here's a bit more about Living and Studying Here:

Maps Showing Capstone, Downtown and Portland
When Portland was founded, developers wanted a lot of corner lots. So Downtown Blocks are 200 feet (61m) square, plus sidewalk and street. 170 years later, this makes Downtown Portland very human scale and easy to walk. Capstone is right downtown as you will see from these maps.

    Public Transportation
Portland has excellent public transportation and a lot of options. You may not need to endure the fuel, maintenance, insurance and parking expenses of buying a car for your time here. That is because in addition to the bus and light rail systems, Portland also has Lyft, Uber, Taxis, and cars you can rent by the month, week, day or hour.

Portland International Airport is served by MAX, one of our Light Rail Lines. Departures to Downtown are scheduled every 20-30 minutes. For under US$3, you can ride directly from the airport to the transit mall Downtown where you can transfer to any other bus or light rail line for no additional fee. MAX stops near a great many hotels at all price-points, plus you can get a cab, Lyft or Uber to pick you up at any stop, to take you the rest of the way to your destination.

    Grocery stores
We have a page on food stores and general shopping, because everybody has to eat. Some people like to spend a lot, others need to spend very little. Portland has both options very well covered. The page shows many of your choices. It also lists eight of the major food outlets that are within a few blocks of Capstone.

    Sports
Team and individual sports are a big deal for many people. Providence Park, which hosts our professional Soccer matches is 5 blocks from Capstone. On this page we list the Professional Teams, College Teams, and places you can gear-up and get some exercise yourself.

    Museums
Art, Advertising, Airplanes, Automobiles, Science, Sports, and Hats. Yes, hats.

    ATMs Downtown
Sometimes you need a little cash. This is not the most complete list on earth, but it's a start.

Restaurants Downtown 1 -- Restaurants Downtown 2 -- Restaurants Everywhere
We humans spend a lot of time eating and perhaps even more time thinking about eating. These pages will tell you a little bit about food service here.

    Brewpubs
Craft-brewed beer has become a serious industry. In Oregon you must also sell food if you sell adult beverages for consumption on the premisis. This brings a delicious competition for quality and value.

Parks in Portland and Close By
Portland is a city of parks. There may be more parks and park land in Portland than any other city on earth. It's part of what makes this town special. Here is a partial list with links to more lists.

    Public Gardens
In addition to parks owned and maintained by a city, there are specialty gardens, some owned by local governments, others by private foundations. These include a formal Japanese Garden, a formal Chinese Garden, formal Rose and Rhododendron test gardens and several semi-wild botanical gardens.

    Get a Library Card
And visit the Multnomah County Central Library, just a few blocks from Capstone.

    Symphony, Opera, Ballet, & Theater
For some, the soul of a city is found in its art scene. Portland has a full time professional orchestra, a ballet company, an opera company, and several theater companies. Venues include the 2,992 seat Keller Civic Auditorium, the 2,776 seat Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, and the multi-theater Portland Center for the Performing Arts. The Artists Repertory Theater is across the street from Capstone.

    Local Media
News, weather, sports, several times a day from dozens of outlets.

    Nightlife
Dance. Listen to music. Have conversation.

    Movies
Motion pictures are a passion for some people. In Portland you can watch movies, watch movies and TV shows being made, or watch a casting call. In addition to modern multiplexes, Portland has: Luxury Theaters, Art-House Theaters, Film Festivals and Theater Pubs. A Luxury theater or Theater pub serves beer, wine and food, often directly to your seat.

    Zoo & Kidstuff
For the young and the young-at-heart.

    Universities & Colleges
If you enjoy studying in Portland at Capstone, you might want to stick around and attend University here as well. Here's a list, with links.
