I-901 SEVIS Fee
- by mailing the I-901 form and a check (drawn on a U.S. bank);
- by credit card over the internet;
- by paying through a Western Union agent in more than 120 countries.
In 2004, the U.S. began charging a fee to pay for the new SEVIS computer system. The system keeps track of all students and exchange visitors.
The fee for students is $200, and must be paid by all students.
The fee must be paid before your interview at the embassy, but cannot be paid until after we prepare your I-20. That is because a SEVIS identification number is generated for you when we enter your I-20 data in the system. This number must be on your I-901 payment form.
There are three ways to pay the fee:

However, because mailing the official receipt to other countries can be uncertain, we feel it is both safer and faster if we pay the I-901 fee on behalf of our prospective students and send the receipt with the I-20. This way, you get both documents at the same time, for the same delivery cost. Unless you tell us that you are in no hurry to have your embassy interview, or you have a sponsor here in the U.S. who can pay the fee for you and send the receipt to you, we will require that you pay for our registration fee, the I-901 SEVIS fee, and the courier fee (we will tell you how much it costs to send documents to your own country). You can do this by sending a money order or bank check, by faxing your credit card information to us, or making a secure credit card payment through our Payments Page.
