We expect you to treat school just like a job. If you become sick and cannot come to school
we expect you to telephone every day until your health improves and you can return
to school. If you are absent for more than a few days we might consider that your illness is
serious enough that you will have seen a doctor and we will want some written proof of your visit.
Capstone is always open. Well, no, not quite. Capstone is open 50 weeks per year, but there are times when weather can make it impossible for teachers and students to get to school safely.
If the weather is bad, check the news and weather reports on local television and radio stations. If the Portland Public School District announces that it is closed due to inclement (bad) weather, Capstone will be officially closed, too. That is, we might be open, but we will not expect students to come to school. If Portland Public Schools will open late, Capstone will be open but some of our early groups or tutorials might be cancelled or rescheduled. Some parts of the Portland metropolitan area might experience severe weather that other parts do not. If there is ice or snow where you live and you do not think you can get to school safely, call Capstone to tell us and we will not expect you to come to school that day. For the same reason, even if the Portland schools are closed, it might be possible for some teachers and students to get to school. If believe you can get to school safely, call Capstone. If one or more teachers have been able to get to school you will be welcome to come and use the resources here even if we cannot offer our regular schedule.
Please note -- Just like with illness, if you cannot come to school (on a day Capstone is open) we expect you to call every day until the weather improves and you can return to school. If Immigration asks we must be able to tell them that you are attending school or explain why you are not, so it is very important that you tell us if you cannot come to school, for any reason.
